The permaculture principles that guide my research and an audit of the skills seedlings needed for my academic research
1. Observe and interact: Propagate the seed of collective creativity through curiosity and transformative imagination.
2. Catch and store energy: Create a safe space where emotions are validated, social hierarchies are dismantled, and agency can flourish for yourself and others.
3. Obtain Yield: Harvest stories and allow children to tell their truth and find their call to action. Will the project yield a return, and if so, what will it be?
4. Self-regulate and accept feedback. Massage the grassroots connection with the community by allowing action through activism and art.
5. Use and value renewable resources: Water the classroom with pedagogies of empowerment, constructive hope, and collective action.
6. Produce no waste: Recycle resilience, reuse past lessons, re-purpose learnings, and restore faith in our young people. Community collaboration and resilience are crucial for the success of grassroots actions.
7. Design from patterns to detail: Sun big picture with creative and embodied participatory pedagogies and refine scope using art as a tool for critical dialogue
8. Integrate instead of segregate: Fertilise by decolonising the concept of climate for cross-cultural connection. Foster connections between elements so they support one another.
9. Use slow and small solutions: Restore wonder in the everyday actions of collaborative community-based problem-solving. Identify two community gardens, work with small groups and allow time
10. Value the edges: Garden and interact with the narrative of the people and place
